Is It A Ball Or A Bag

Katvig(tm) designer/charity bicycle helmet

Imagine a ball you can throw, kick and fling through the air; imagine a bag you can give your children to play with when you have filled the refrigerator, and imagine a world without plastic bags!

PLAY BALL SHOPPER fits in the hand, schoolbag or pocket. When you are in the supermarket and have paid, you take it out, pull the patch in the middle aside and put your groceries in the cloth bag. It is easier than paying by card. And when you are home again it takes less than 5 seconds before you have the ball back.

Katvig’s ball bag PLAY BALL SHOPPER challenges several paradigms. We know that plastic bags destroy the environment and we know that plastic bags cost enormous resources to produce. Worldwide humans use one million plastic bags a minute, which kill one billion animals a year besides ruining oceans and forests. The plastic bags occupy big areas in poor regions with trees and plants that could have been used a thousand times better.

THE CLOTH BAG has been an obvious sustainable alternative since our parents were children, but we do not use it. Is it because we are unaware that it does not pollute? Is it because we do not want a better world? No, we lack neither information nor good intentions. What we need is something as simple as a cloth bag that is cool, if we are to change habits and even more important get the children started before they get used to the nasty yet apparently convenient plastic bag addiction, which is so hard to get rid off again. Thousands of fashion companies have through the years printed their names on a cloth bag in a naive attempt to polish their green image.

KATVIG has gone in a completely different and much more obvious direction and introduce the world’s first ball that can change into a cloth bag and the other way around. It is fun, it is cool, you can play with it if you are a child or an adult, you can bring it to school, to work, to church, to bed and most important: to the supermarket.

Use the ball
"And mum is standing in the supermarket looking for her cloth bag that doubles as a ball for the kids…"

PLAY BALL SHOPPER is made in polyester with lining in cotton.
As a ball it measures 10 centimeters in diameter, as a bag it measures 38 x 43 x 12.
Price: 99 DKK

What’s With Katvig And Bags
KATVIG is about making clothes without harming the environment, the people making it and the children wearing it. But what about the thousands of fish that otherwise would have lived a carefree life in the oceans if it had not been for the millions of plastic bags floating around? “Is the sale of my goods going to increase the consumption of bags and suffocate even more animals”, Vigga Svensson, founder of KATVIG asked herself and started looking for sustainable alternatives.
So far it has lead to the Katvig™ degradable plastic bag that vanishes into nothing after 2 years, the cloth bag that turns into a dress and now also PLAY BALL SHOPPER.
